ESTHWAITE WATER TROUT FISHERY REPORT – 10/3/11
TROUT FISHING
The new season has got off to a flyer with hectic sport reported from both boat and bank and from a variety of methods, including fly, spin and worm! First up Lucca Griffiths, aged 11 from West Yorkshire took a fine over wintered rainbow from the banking next to the ticket office, which weighed in at 3lb 8oz [ see attached photo ] . Meanwhile Hugh and Ben Pocock and Angus Snodgrass fished worm and fly from the boats to take 8 rainbows between them. Hawkshead Angling club member Dave Bell from Windermere took a fine brace of over wintered specimens to 3lb+ also. Also connecting with over wintered trout were pike anglers John Ashurst and Dave Roscoe, both Big s club season members. Both took nice trout on 8 inch pike lures. John landed a fine 6lb rainbow and Dave took a magnificent 4lb Brown Trout. Both fish were returned alive!
Once the first stockings of fish had settled in sport improved no end with venue regular Bob Swann and Colin O’brien taking 38 rainbows between them to 3lb+ from the boats. Black and green lures fished on a sinking line did the damage for the duo. A typical and very effective early season combo’.
Meanwhile fishing worm and corn and employing spinning tactics from the car park banking H.A.C members Geoff Gregory and James Timmins landed 40 rainbows between them to 3lb 8oz.

Meanwhile Sam Tait, aged 10 was out fishing with his dad Gary and latched into an 18lb+ cracker, taken on a Rapala from the boats.
Also, with a top brace of twenties, Phil Higgins took fish of 26lb and 21lb respectively from the boats, well done that man [ see picture attached ].
Don’t forget the pike fishing season finishes on Esthwaite on 31st March, so be quick time is running out to land that fish of a lifetime!
