ESTHWAITE WATER TROUT FISHERY REPORT – 17/2/11
TROUT FISHING
Now the ice has thawed, its business as usual and February has seen some nice overwintered trout taken between the ticket office and the car park on a variety of methods fished deep. Silver season ticket holder Richard Maddox has had 3 really good days legering worm and corn and took 12 rainbows to 3lb+.
John Thorne from Millom also took 4 rainbows, legering worm, from the same area.
Peter Giles from Preston fished the same area of the lake from the boats and took 3 rainbows to 3lb 1oz on a sinking line and cats whisker boobies, fished slow and close to the bottom.
The first stocking of the lake will take place on 1st March. However our Open Day will be held on Sunday 13th March. The day will include heat 1 of the Esthwaite Pairs 2011 competition [ there are still places left for the first heat ], discounted tuition and general camaraderie. There will be a fly tying demonstration offering practical tips and you can learn how to tie that ‘hot’ Esthwaite pattern. Also special offers on fishing tackle and complimentry food and drink will be available. Contact the fishery for further details, everyone is welcome!
PIKE FISHING
The pike fishing has been generally very good over the last few weeks with a number of doubles and twenty pounders reported. Big s club member Craig Middleton from Manchester fished static deadbaits from the boats to land a 20lb 1oz beauty.
Meanwhile Hawkshead Angling Club member Paul Christian took 3 nice pike from the car park banking on smelt deadbaits. Pauls fish weighed 26lb, 12lb 2oz and 10lb 8oz respectively.
Dave Roscoe had a cracking day from the boats, taking a 22lb specimen and an 18lb back up fish, both to static deadbait.
Big s club member and lure fishing fanatic Chris Harris took a nice brace of pike including a 21 and an 18 pounder on lures fished slow and deep from the boats.
Venue regular Stuart Fazackerley from Standish took a brace of twenties which both fell to static deadbaits from the boats. Stuart’s efforts were rewarded with a 20lb 6oz and a 21lb 8oz cracker.
Paul Davidson from Gateshead also got in on the action with a personal best 23lb snapper, taken on deadbait from the boats [ see attached picture ].
Don’t forget the pike season lasts until the end of March on Esthwaite and its this month that sees some real heavy weights being caught, especially in and around the many spawning bays on the lake.
